Zirconia Alumina 25% (ZA25)
Blast Cleaning Media

  • With 9 Mohs hardness, Zirconia Alumina 25% (ZA25) is a blasting media with a unique micro-structure, which gives it extreme toughness and hardness, exceptional cutting capacity and longer lifetimes.
  • Zirconia Alumina is a ceramic obtained by combining aluminum oxide (alumina - Al2O3) and zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) and is produced by smelting in electric furnaces at temperatures above 2000°C. It is superior to other traditional abrasives on the market.
  • Uses: Zirconia Alumina has a wide application for the blasting of granite, casting surface, alloy steel, monuments etc.

Steel blasting
Steel blasting
  • Zirconium Alumina is a composite abrasive that combines the properties of Aluminium Oxide (Al2O3) and Zirconium Dioxide (ZiO2) to create a superior quality material. These oxides are mixed in a specific ratio, which depends on the desired properties of the final product.
  • The oxide mixture is compacted into a fine powder and then sintered at high temperatures in electric furnaces. Through sintering, a dense and resistant structure is obtained, in which the two types of particles are evenly distributed.
  • After sintering, the material is cooled and grounded into various grain sizes for use as abrasive blasting material. The grinding process takes place in a controlled way to obtain particles of specific sizes for different types of applications.
  • The material produced is tested to ensure that it meets the required technical specifications, including hardness, particle size and particle distribution.

Zirconia Alumina Advantages

HIGH CUTTING PERFORMANCE

Zirconia alumina particles become sharper as they are used in more operating cycles (friability)

HARSH ENVIRONMENT

Works best in high pressure environments.

9 MOHS HARDNESS

Recommended for cleaning and blasting tough materials such as: granite, stone, steel.

Zirconia Alumina Applications

Application of Zirconia Alumina Blasting steel, castings, granite, stone
Blasting steel, castings, granite, stone
Due to its wear resistance, zirconia alumina offers long life and increased efficiency in various blasting applications, making it an excellent choice for multiple industries. With a hardness of about 9 on the Mohs scale, zirconia alumina is used for blasting hard steel surfaces, castings, granite and stone surfaces.

Application of Zirconia Alumina Foundries
Foundries
Zirconia alumina is an extremely hard and high temperature resistant material with high chemical stability. That is why it is used in foundries for making refractory coatings, additive for making moulds, ceramic filters to remove impurities from molten metal.

Application of Zirconia Alumina Sanding belts
Sanding belts
Sanding belts with zirconia alumina particles are the top choice when polishing hard surfaces. Due to their friability, zirconia alumina particles become increasingly sharper as grinding processes proceed, meaning that zirconia alumina particle belts have a longer life, being replaced when the grit fades. Also, they are suitable for wet sanding.

Application of Zirconia Alumina Sanding discs
Sanding discs
Sanding discs with zirconium alumina particles are used for high intensity grinding in iron processing units. These discs are not recommended for finishing soft metals or wood surfaces because they are too robust and dense and can damage such surfaces that require a higher degree of fineness.

User Safety

Zirconia alumina is a safe and stable material. It does not need special attention while handled. Wearing personal protection equipment is necessary, as well as avoiding eye contact. Storing this material does not require special conditions. All it needs is a good air ventilation in the storage space.

In case of inhalation, the affected person must be taken out, to fresh air, and kept in a comfortable position so he/she can breathe properly. If he/she has difficulties breathing, oxygen can be administered. If he/she stops breathing, CPR manoeuvres can be performed. In this case, a medical intervention is also necessary.

Avoid direct contact with the skin. If your skin entered in direct contact with this abrasive material, you must wash the affected area with clean water for 20 minutes. Use a soft soap and clean water.

In case of ingestion, a doctor’s intervention is necessary. All treatments applied to the victim must take into account the symptoms showed by that victim.

Avoid walking through the material and always wear personal protective equipment. In case of leakages, one must insulate the area on an approximately 25 meters radius in all directions. It is forbidden to spill this material in water. Please avoid dust. Use professional vacuum cleaners to clean the area.

This material comprises silicate crystals and/or quartz. According to the IARC Monographs for assessing the hazards posed by chemical substances to people, this material bears a potential risk of cancer.
